Locked out!
« on: 24 September 2012, 17:35 »
Hi,
I picked up a list mk3 the other day. However the central locking pump has decided to pack up.
My car is de-locked and am unable to unlock it manually

I don't know what to do. Any advise would be much appreciated

To quote a famous poet:

Its hammer time

If you have no physical locks, doors or boot, theres no way in is there?
Unless you fancy smashing a screwdriver through the door.

Windows are cheap to replace on insurance

Have you checked the key fob is working, maybe the battery has died on it. If not smash one of the front windows as they would be easier to replace. Plenty in breakers yards for cheap.

go and find a snap on van in your area, (check online if you dont know of any) they sell a kit to get into cars for when keys have been locked inside ect. iits basically like a flat line rubber bag you push through the gap between the door and b post then pump it up to give you space to slot in specialy designed rods that come with the kit to grab the handle or door lock pin from inside to unlock, brilliant bit of kit

Given the normal price of snap on gear, a new window would be cheaper...

If your in the AA or similar they will come out with appropriate tools and get you in.

I have seen them use the inflatable bag, I've also seen them simply pull the door frame back. Both would damage the metal shape and possibly the paint on the door. There is no better option than smashing a window. It's easily fixed and will leave no permanent damage
