Golf mk4 2.0 gti engine light on

Hi! Just bought a golf 2.0 gti 2001 with full dealer history and 1 lady owner . Problem is when went to look at car it was low on fuel but started first turn of key. When straight to petrol station to re fuel and when pulled out of petrol station engine light came on and car ran sluggish. When I arrived home I lifted bonnet and bottom pipe off air box was off. Put pipe on but still same. Any ideas please? Only happened after re fuelled.

the light coming on after refueling was probably just a coincidence, take it to your local garage and have the code read as some fault codes can be cleared and then dont come back on for a while so the fault might have been there before you brought the car, if the pipe that came of was cold feed to the air box it wont make a difference being off really, i wouldnt worry too much its probably just a lambda sensor or something
