Replacing iPhone battery
« on: 22 September 2012, 10:18 »
Lil sis got my old 3GS a while back (when 4S came out) but it's crashing regularly and looks like it is the battery. Ifixit has a great kit for replacing the battery but it's in america.

Has anyone managed to replace it themselves? Or found a site that sells the equipment? It is just until her contract runs out in a few months and she can upgrade.

it might just be out of warranty, but my first port of call would be the apple store to see if they are willing to replace free of charge.

They were really helpful with my wife's 3gs. The mic had intermittent problems and they replaced the phone there and then, no quibbles. She did have the extended apple care warranty though

If you get no luck from the Apple store it's really not that hard to change, just fiddly and make sure you don't loose or break any of the parts.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Having just rebuilt my girlfriends  iphone 4 (she put it in the washing machine!) i was pleasantly surprised just how easy it was to remove the battery.
You will need the correct screwdriver to remove the two tiny screws holding the rear case on but apart from that its a doddle.
The tools cost sod all on ebay and infact got mine free with the replacement parts i purchased..mic/ docking port  front and rear camera and home button / flex cable.
