What : mk2 16v engine mods.
« on: 08 July 2005, 17:38 »
Evening all, i am coming into the possension of a J reg mk2 16v. First of all I am going to take it to Awesome Gti for a service and general car check up.

Then what should be my first port of call regarding engine mods ? What is possible on this engine and at what cost , i dont mind getting my hands dirty and learning new bits.

What is engine management and can this be modified / updated ... i.e a remap

thanks
Brett

if you dont mind getting your hands dirty you can service it yourself, awesome gti will take the piss on prices, just do an oil change and change oil, air and fuel filters, spark plugs. id do the cambelt too if you dont know when it was done. this will probably be a garage job

instead of an ecu for the fueling 16v's have a metal flap  so no chips im afraid unless you change the fuelling system.

id say the best value mod for good power would be the exhaust manifold (save loads of weight too, the originals cast iron) for a stainless one and get it setup at somewhere like stealth

you can not rechip a mk2 16v, the euc does timing only.

fit a 2.0 bottom end with a gas flowed head and std kr cams you should look arounf 170bhp with flowed manifolds.

£350 for a 2.0 bottom end

£500+ for a sorted flowed head

£500+ for cams

basically, how deep are your pockets
