my 16v is back!!
« on: 08 July 2005, 16:51 »

coming back from Club GTI NI show last saturday @ about 70mph oil buzzer came on, stopped & pulled over. restart & it rattled like hell, so towed home the rest of the way

in short

got an oil blockage, starved crankshaft journal of oil, loadsa heat, spun a bearing, scoured the crank & conrod

so its now sitting outside my front door on a set of ramps with half the engine bay emptied, waiting for the block to be dropped out.

good news is though, it will be back better than ever. block is getting totally rebuilt from the ground up, so hopefully be like new again. but just means im golfless for about a month  and stuck driving an aul bashed red/faded pink fiesta in the meantime!!

id just about got the car the way id wanted it after a year of owning it - only for this too happen, & it was all looking so nice at the show, and was being used by EuroCarParts on their trade stand.

well it now looks like this!! turns out the head will need stripped down also, due to the amount of swarf found in the sump

wont be doing any big mod's maybe bit of polishing to the head n manfiolds but thats it.

can anyone idenifty where the hell all the brass/copper swarf would come from? obviously this has caused the blockage but we cant work out what has failed!!
