Didn't Asker have his tarten seat repaired or replaced by the dealers?

Yes and mine was refused under VW terms and conditions. Guess his dealer wangled it.

Key I think is that their warranty is for the covers not the internal foam/structure. So, if it is the internals that have failed then you should be OK.

I'm on the bigger side myself, I'm always having to take care of the seat when getting in and out, how ever the seat belt got stuck in my back pocket on getting in awhile ago  and took 3 small chunks outa the bolster  600 quid for a new cover,

Worth checking your insurance cover??? Just a thought....
