redrilling pcd on mk3 discs/hubs
« on: 16 September 2012, 12:06 »
Im considering buying new discs and drums/ hub carriers from GSF and having them redrilled to match the wheels i want to use.
Does anyone know if theres any issues with this such as damage to the strength of the parts, or warping/ cracking due to heat levels etc.

Thought it might be a good alternative to using adaptors.
Does anybody have experience of this?
Cheers

Redrill to what pcd. What pcd is your mk3? 4x100 or 5x100?

I know some people that have redrilled hubs and disks. A guy I know has even redrilled his brake drum to 5x130 pcd as there is plenty of metal on the drums.

:)

Good to hear. Apparantly theres alot of material at the rear drum and it can accept a drilled pcd and will house 4 nuts nicely and keep a wheel in place.
Its a 4x100 golf being drilled to a 4x108 pattern to accept ford wheels.
So if i can get ford headed nuts with the conical seat for the wheels, that leads to a vw spec stud that goes through the wheel into the new threaded redrilled discs/hubs and drums, then bobs yr uncle. Just play with the arches, the coilovers and the tyre sizes. Hey presto bad-ass sklammed wagon on fat chunky cossie rims!
Can anyone else shed any light on this dark art?

It is not as easy as you think, you really need to have the the hubs and discs welded up then redrilled and tapped to suit.

Needs to be done by someone that knows what they are doing (engineering shop if you can)
