Brake pad question

Ok guys so went out for a drive today in the golf and heard a funny noise only to find that only my drivers side brake pads had gone but passengers side hadn't now I knew they were low but the drivers side is no existent lol

Anyway my question is do I need pads with the wear sensors or not as I ent got a clue my car is a w reg golf gti ARZ engine 150 if that helps lol

Have look around the caliper and strut to see if there's a plug and cable. Or buy ones with brake sensor and if you haven't got them cut them off
