Hi,
My 08 mini Cooper D has just gone into the garage for a replacement clutch and fly wheel which had only done 33000 miles and at the astronomical cost of £2000. I am currently in dispute with mini and will not be paying the full price to have the car repaired however it has prompted me to think about replacing the mini for an old 1990 GTI MK2 with 160,000 miles on the clock, £1600.
I have read various buying guides which outline what to look for and it seems relatively straight forward, however I was wondering if anyone had and practical day to day advice on the running of the car - My main concerns are to do with reliability issues with so many miles on the clock as well as running costs and servicing costs (what are they like?). It comes with replaced suspension and a new exhaust a new gearbox and new valeo clutch on it Full service, including oil change, Cambelt Kit and Water pump as well as being in impeccable condition on the outside. Once repaired the mini should fetch £10,000 on a private sale which leaves me plenty of money to save for a rainy day should anything with the Golf go wrong, so please shed some light of your experiences with the beasts especially if you have one with such a milage on.
Cheers in advance,
