wheel fitment queries, offsets/ hub bore diameters etc
« on: 15 September 2012, 17:54 »
Hi folks. Iv put this in mk3 section to see if anyone has similar experience, and may shift it into 'garage' if it gets envolving

Im thinking of an 8"wide wheel for the mk3 but will be using adaptors to match the pcd. I realise this will bring the rim closer to the arch, but with the right tyres i might still gert a hefty drop on the coils whilst running thiese wheels.
O.k so its an 8" width on a 16" diameter with an offset of around 15-20.
On top of this problem of what may be exesive poke,
Theres the bore diameteron the hub of 57.1 where thewheel is 63.4.
Will a spigott rong cover the gap? Or should i try to incorperate that into the adaptor?

Many questions, but really want to nail the stance of the motor.
Cheers

Your going to have problems. End of!!

I have front 8" x16 et34 and have to run a 14mm hubcentric spacer to clear the calipers. So the wheel is now et20. I had to roll and pull the arches out like mad with fall camber to get them to fit.

If you run a 15mm adaptor your et will be 0-5. If you fit 195/40/16 tyres you will be close to tucking tyre. Rim will poke out.

Rear will be fine with some camber shims and arch rolling/pulling.

Adaptors will be made to suit the wheel. Speak to the company you get them from.

Rimstyle are good people ask them about the adaptors

Look at front wheel. Rear is 9" et 15

That's a 195/45 tyre

Before I rolled and pull my arches the tyre poked out a good 25mm out. So yours will be 40/45mm out.

Even with arch work I still think it will poke

Cheers fella, you'v obviously put some thought into this and the pic you showed as an example goes to show the effort payed off. VERY nice.
I'll speak to rimstyle, and look at the adaptec stuff, but looking at other threads i may even consider redrilling the hubs/ disks/ drums to suit.

They do say 'anythings possible'

Anyomnre else got any thughts on this?
I think th main problem so far is the silly low offset

If you weld up and redrill to 5x100 and get a spigot ring in, they will give a good stance

Pics of wheels then?

Well, its not for defo, but Escort Cosworth alloys in beutifull condition, may use foliatecs vynil spray so as to change them to white and peel it away at a later date.
I'd lovee to see these chunky rims on a chunky low wagon, but am torn between these or spending similar money to modify the car to accept 8x16's, than getting my brand new G60's banded to 8x15 and painted white instead, (on a red car)
Next stage is to do a bit more digging and pricing up on the redrilling of brandnew parts, versus the quote for widenede steels.
Its a tuffy

Anyone here got any comments or sugestions to add?
