wheel refurb cost

i got a new replacement wheel and tyre today from the dealership.

i decided not to fit the wheel yet - i applied 3x coats of wheel sealant and dressed the tyres then hid it in the wardrobe for now


im going to leave the 'old' scratched wheel on for the now and will either keep it as a spare or sell one of the wheels on.

anyone know how much it costs to refurb monza shadows and how successful are they? the scratch is fairly small, i touched it up with black paint an clear lacquer and its not too bad but not perfect obviously.


cant decide whether to wait till old tyre is knackered then fit new wheel/tyre so i only have to pay for 1 new tyre when the time comes or just refurb my old wheel and sell the brand new wheel and tyre.

If you search on that other forum a place in Newcastle and a place in Sunderland have had good reviews for doing them. At least if it local you can take it back if they screw up.

I'm surprised the dealership didn't ask for your old wheel back and/or only offer to refurb your wheel. Well played!

I refurbed my Monza shadows for £85 each, looked perfect and a year later they are like new. You would never tell they had been done.

I've used SEM in Sunderland before and they're really good but wasn't sure if they did diamond polishing. Had a look on their website and it says they do so I think I will give them a try.

They're on holiday I think but will take it in next week. I'm hoping they can just do a spot repair rather than strip the whole wheel but as long as it looks OEM I'm not really bothered.

AFter 3 years of parking miles from the kerb I did my front offside the other week. Not a major scrape but I know it's there so want to get it sorted at some point.
Harrogate VW quoted £120 for a refurbed wheel i.e. they send it off to a company whose name escapes me at the moment and I get a refurbed one rather than my own. They've not contacted me in nearly a month so they can get lost. This by the way was the same company my local Wheel Specialist said they would use as they can't do diamond polished alloys. They quoted £120 plus VAT so are even more.
Donny VW have a chap who does wheels for them who quoted £50 to "touch it up". It won't be perfect but will be better than it is a the moment. So might consider him at some point unless there are proper refurbers out there who can beat £120 which clearly there are.

Ken, if the damaged wheel isn't too bad, I'd wait until you need tyres, so that you only need to buy one tyre, then sell it. I'm sure that there are plenty of people with really battered wheels that would happily buy a better one rather than having to buy a new one or risk a dodgy refurb.

That's what I did when I got a replacement Vancouver.

Thats what i decided to do actually

I touched it up with some black paint and clear lacquer and it looks pretty decent to be honest. if your standing more than a couple of feet away you cant see it.

i actually might buy another bridgestone tyre now so i have 2 matching as i by the time i need a new pair they might be out of production.

the OEM ones are made in poland and the 'off the shelf; ones are made in hungary and some of the codes are different on the side so i guess theyre different compounds. i will try and get another matching one to go with my new tyre

I had a nightmare trying to source the identical Bridgestone tyre when I curbed my wheel in the first week of car ownership.

There were so many different Potenza RE050A tyres 1Z, EZ, SZ, TL
I even emailed Bridgestone and they were unsure. Apparently the compound is the same its the tyre tread that is different for different car manufacturers.

This was Bridgestones final say on it, if its any help

Rhino Alloys will d a full refurb for £105. I think I'm going to give them a try. When I rang them the bloke explained the full process they went through and it sounded very thorough.
