Megs G220 Pads which to use
« on: 11 September 2012, 12:38 »
Im going to be using my G220 on a BMW soon ive not used it for a long time, I have bought the following pads

1 x Meguiar's Soft Buff Cutting Pad - Brown
1 x Meguiar's Soft Buff Polishing Pad - Yellow
1 x Meguiar's Soft Buff Finishing Pad - Black

Forgive my stuipid questions its been a while  :embarrassed:

Im going to be using poorboys SSR , the car has light swirl marks am i right in saying the yellow polishing pad will be fine for this? Im i right in thinking the brown will be a bit harsh?

Give it a test with the yellow, if it isn't up to the job then go for the brown.

I have only really ever used the yellow polishing pad on the mk4 and the dubs paintwork are pretty tough, not sure how tough compared to beemers though!  :undecided:

^This, as a rule of thumb always start with the least abrasive combination and assess the results before moving on to the next, for example:

Black pad--SSR1
Yellow pad--SSR1
Brown pad--SSR 1

Black pad--SSR 2
Yellow pad--SSR 2
Brown pad--SSR 2

Black pad--SSR 3
Yellow pad--SSR 3
Brown pad--SSR 3

But always bare in mind that if you use a very abrasive polish/compound that they can inflict their own damage to to surface which may require refining with a light cut on a finishing pad.

Note: I've never used Poorboys SSR but the above is a valid example for any polish pad combo (i think) ;D

Good answer above, what SSR polishes do you have? They do 1, 2, 2.5, and 3?
