Honey I'm home!
« on: 09 September 2012, 22:38 »
Evening guys, just got home after what can only be described as a completely epic journey!

We successfully drove 3202 miles across 12 countries in 8 days.  We have to give complete credit to our little BMW 520i Touring, which we have affectionately called Frau Bonner.  She performed admirably never breaking down, never over heating, just working like any efficient German car should.  She was at home cruising the Autobahns at 120mph, we only managed a top speed of 133mph in the end, help up by a mixture of the 2.0 litre engine and rubbish automatic gearbox, it was all good fun though.

Sadly we never got to sample the Nurburgring.  When we arrived there had just been an accident so the course was shut for over an hour.  We gave up and went to the hotel, by the time it was open again it was almost time to shut. We did however thoroughly enjoy some of the best driving roads Europe has to offer.  We went all through Germany and over the Alps, a particular highlight being the Vrsic Pass.  It absolutely blew Stelvio out of the water.

Other highlights included Brugge, Venice and Prague.  All cities that I intend to visit again in the future.

I want to give a massive thanks to everyone that donated, we've managed to raise in the region of £4,000 for Action Medical Research.  Please remember that it's not too late to donate, the page is staying open for the foreseeable future.

There will be photos etc to follow, however please join our Facebook page and view our updates here - http://www.facebook.com/teamgraysonrally

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.
