Toyota Celica, opinions?
« on: 07 September 2012, 22:25 »
Right I been looking at getting a mk7 celica, either 140 or 190 model. Insurance is ok, but I wanted to know more about these cars from people's experience. What they like to drive, reliability, parts, common problems etc...

Getting bored of the mk4 golf every tom, dick and chav has one.

My mate got the 190, he did alot of research before buying it, the cars seem solid and relieable BUT.. if your gunna get one don't bother nless its the 190 T-Sport only one worth getting, and they got 9k RPM!! @ 6k RPM the 2nd cam kicks in (Like V-tec) and throws you back, they are nice and low as standard too :)

Thanks guys, really I'm looking at a reliable coupe for 2k, the celica seems to tick the boxes, but I'd only look at 190 models. Any more info or ideas?

the pre 2002 140 vvti can burn heeps of oil (stay far away)  try and get a Tsport, but any 190 vvtli will do..

Change the Cam/lift bolt first off or you'll be looking for lift..

Good cars, had 7 of them, 2x vvtli's.... if you want fun go for the SS111.... Beams.. yummy.

Whats the lift bolts do?

Also anyway to make lift kick in far earlier rather than so high up the rev range, I can see it being alot of fun lower down

If it uses oil & is on less than 100k with history then take it to your local Toyota dealership & ask to do an oil consuption test,
You may be allowed a new short engine under warrenty
