What consumer battles have you won?
« on: 07 September 2012, 21:36 »
Some people just suck things up and take it, some people stand up for their rights and are stroppy when needed.

What battles have you won?

I'm on my third laptop from John Lewis - bought a Sony Vaio and it fell to bits, they replaced it with another Vaio and that fell to bits too.  I then had a foot-stamping episode and they replaced it with an Apple Macbook Pro, which my children are trying to destroy.

My parents rejected an Austin Montego back in 1987 - that took quite a lot of fighting.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I know the hill well! Was it the place on the St George/Air Baloon Tavern side, or the Hanham/Kingsway side? I test drove a 9A Corrado from the one on the Kingsway side actually. Old dear lives 5 minutes away in Oldland. That garage was a spend the mimimum to get the max profit with a minimum warranty and pressure the customer kinda place. Hope it was that one. cnuts!

Moved to an area with no Vodafone coverage. Tried to cancel contract, they wanted £440 as a cancellation fee  I wrote an official complaint, received an unsatisfactory response, I wrote another complaint and added that I was unhappy with their customer service. I received a Sure Signal and 6 months free on my contract....bonus!

On the other hand I had a headache for about week whilst dealing with it

2 cars returned. The latest one that turned out to have been a SEAT that wanted to leave the back seats collapsing on my daughter and also rendering the middle belt useless as it wouldn't lock in place. Shame as normally that place sells good motors and we still have the GTTDI from them.

Also been to small claims over a car install that went belly up. Fought it as I should have just done it myself like normal but with 2 kids and one being newborn I had no time. Basics are to know the law and use it and don't be afraid to go to small claims. Most companies don't want the hassle. But make sure the font have history with dodging bailiffs.

SWwater wanted almost £800 for an underground burst water pipe leading to my property. I got it fixed and tried to claim the loss back from them. They said they had written to me saying my usage was higher than expected. I keep all correspondence so rebuffed that. Told them after speaking to the Citizens Advice Bureau, I was appoint a solicitor to deal with it, and take action to compensate me with the stress it had caused. They wrote off the balance and gave me 3 months free.

I had a long battle with mercedes a few years ago.

My dads car went in for some work on rust, which they originally denied had anything to do with them. Managed to get them to repair all the damage for free... but that was only the start.

When we got the car back the stereo wouldnt work. They claimed that the stereo had been fitted from a different car. We knew this to be incorrect as my uncle had the same car. They said they would look at it as a good will gesture... which they did.

When we got the car back this time all the lights would go out whilst driving. Pretty scary on an evening!! This went over 8-9 months on a car with less than 20k on the clock.

The level of service from mercedes and even their compaints dept at one point was SO POOR that I swore I would never buy a mercedes again! They really are patched up shoddy builds and their sales team know little or nothing about their cars. Selling to 50+ year olds living with the belief they are still a great company is probably the reason why.

Anything post 1994 I wouldnt go near! BMW have moved the game on vauxhall are more focused on the buy big stack em high style american markets.

I recently made a Shell petrol station sell me super unleaded at the price they advertised, not the price the pumps said. They'd forgotten to take down the price sign, but they'd updated the digital price read out that you see once you lift the pump that also goes to the till. I wasn't having any of it!

Took a car finance company to court for mis-selling way before the whole ppi thing blew up and got them to take the car back and give me just over £5000 plus interest and costs.... judge said they were 'acting like the cowboys from the wild west'....
