GTI 8v ECU fault, scrap, break or repair?
« on: 05 September 2012, 20:45 »
Hi all,

I have a mk 3 GTI 8v and it had died. It has an ECU fault apparently burn marks can be seen on the PCB. The garage has said it will be £399+VAT to get the ECU sorted then fitting on top. I have just spent £300 on a service and MOT +£120 on fault finding this problem.

My dilemma now is do I scrap it, break it or repair it.

All advice welcome.

Thanks

Paul

what condition is it in other than this? and whats the mileage on it?
had a similar problem with a seat cordoba i had, i called it a day after spending £200 messing about with fault finding. shame to give up but sometimes it better to put that money into a better car.

I've got an 8v ecu for sale, it's off an ADY engine, but it'll work on the later AGG one too I believe. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=230969.0. All you'd need is to get the immobiliser matched to your key, which you can do yourself with vagcom and vagtacho.

Pcb is printed circuit board. It's the main board of any electronic item. If it's burnt it most likely is damaged.
