engine trouble
« on: 06 July 2005, 12:25 »
Hey all, my engines a bit sick at the mo... Its a 1988 gti 8 valver on the digifant system.

I took the car out a couple of hours ago to find after about 10 miles that the engine kept stalling when i stopped the car at traffic lights etc.. it slowly got worst over the next couple of miles and the engine started stalling when i took my foot of the throttle but was fine when accelerating. i manage just about to get it home by having to stop every half a mile, restarting the engine go up the gear range until i couldnÂ’t accelerate anymore without going off the road. The engine would then stall and i would have to repeat the process again.

the car was idling fine after starting it and the problem only started after i engaged the gears. now since i got it back the car wont start at all.

Anyone got any ideas what the problem could be?

Cheers Smokey

wind the idle screw all the way out, take it on a run for about 15-20 mins and it should free up again, (I.E. when you dip the clutch the revs will increase up to about 2k maybe more) if it keeps doing that then pull up engine still running and screw it back in until it idles at about 900-1k . Job done
