clutch pedal snapped!!!
« on: 01 September 2012, 08:32 »
hi everyone my clutch pedal snapped yesterday and was lucky enough to have a friend to fix it for me last night. only thing is now when i drive the car the revs seem to stay high between gear changes. they do drop but it just hangs on to the revs far too long. was just wondering what could possibly cause the problem? thanks in advance.

Very take all the plastics off under the steering wheel and swap it over.

There should be a little plastic tab on the back on the clutch pedal that hits the clutch switch. Did it go back on after the repair? The clutch switch itself could actually be fine, you may just be missing the plastic bit from the pedal.

i found the problem, basically where the clutch pedal has been super re-enforced with lots of weld the plastic clip doesnt go on properly and barely makes contact with the switch. ive bodged it today until i can do a proper lasting repair on it but my god its like a different car to drive now, nice and smooth with no over-revving... lovely  thanks for the replies! :-)

The spot welded tab that commonly breaks is a safety device meant to give way and pull the pedal out of the way in the event of a front end collision. Unfortunately it breaks over time and it is often welded back in place as a cheap fix. But if the weld is too strong then you could be at risk of severe leg damage if you have a crash, because the pedal won't collapse out of the way.

Mine broke a year or two ago and the above info was given to me by the AA man. So I got it replaced with a new dealer pedal instead of getting it welded.
