Sills starting to go a bit soft?
« on: 30 August 2012, 18:58 »
Hi,

Having got wee Golfie back from his mammoth MOT today, the mechanic has passed on a message that I may have a bit of a problem next year as 'the sills are starting to go a bit soft', I've not spoken to him about it yet as my wife sorted out the car for me, it'll be about a week until I can speak to him.

I was hoping someone might be able to advise what's involved in that?  Can I catch it early or will it need heavy welding etc?  I don't believe it's a problem just just now but if I could catch it early or get get an idea of rough costs and worst case scenario, it'd be much appreciated, hopefully give me an idea when I do get to speak to him about it,

thanks :D

Basically replacement sills will be needed but it all depends how bad it is and the cost would be in respect to how good you want the job done. Either if you just want it patched up or to look like it has never had any welding. Get some pics up of them on here to give us a better idea as I don't really know what the tester means by 'soft' as they are either rotten or there not. May just need stripped, rust treated and repainted.
