It is possible to pass MOT with cat removed if you can keep the emissions within the required limits but with old cars like the mk3 it's highly unlikely. I removed the cat from my 8v and I noticed some gains but nothing massive, little sharper on the throttle, I'm simply going to put a cat pack on when MOT time comes. One of my mates bought a cat converter for his car and simply removed the innards effectively de-catting it and then when the MOT comes for him he'll just reassemble.

For the tiny gains involved it is better to leave it fitted.

I'm amazed.
My S3 barely passed - and always needed 2-3 attempts - and that was WITH the 100 cell Milltek cats.
In the end, they were binned in favour of the 200 cell cats...and it was still marginal.
I must have had a crappy map on mine. It was a nightmare to get through.

I must have a healthy engine or something
It's only done 45k anyhow

Did buy a 200 cell sport cat but it didnt arrive in time for by MOT date when I originally fitted the engine
To my suprise it passed easily

Was worried this year, but again passed with no issues

Not complaining at all. Less restrictions for the turbo :-)

My brother is a firm believer in a good de-cat, always made a difference.  He has his 1.8T LPG'd toledo done, Audi S6 2.2 5cyl (although sticks a cat in for mot using v-band clamps then removes after)

He's going to do my 16v, so will update if it's made any difference..

My S3 was bought new and it's first MOT it only had 13,000 miles on it!
The APR map must have been a dirty one.

I used to have a fight to get it through, as did my mate who bought it from me and had it 2-3 years - despite him going from a 100 cell to 200 cell cats.

I tried it on mine...standard cat, de-cat and 100 cell cat - no gains to be seen.
This was dyno tested.

If one 16v doesn't give a gain...I'm surprised if another one does.
