early/late compatability???

rebuilding a 1987 8v shell i bought on e bay, i have just bought mfa clocks, they dont say vdo on them, were they made by anyone else? the loom will not mate up? also i bought the later round style expansion tank, this does not fix to the chassis, are the earlier chassis different?

ive got a set of early 160mpg 8v clocks if your interested mate.

early ones have double plugs and late ones have single plugs on the clocks :smiley:

i scrapped an early 8v today :lipsrsealed: the bottle mount did look slightly diffrent

Yeah, clocks were also made by motometer (or someone like that).  Have not tried to install those into a VDO car.  Seems that there were several different batches, a even the 120mph VDO ones differ depending on the age of the vehicle.  Confusing......

thanks, i have bid on some twin plug ones on e bay, i think after studying my looms this will be right, so i gotta set of 140mph motometer single plug clocks for sale if anyone wants em...

oh dear, the twin plug clocks arrived today. also by motometer, stamped 1989, they dont fit either, i assume this means i definately need vdo twin plugs off a 1987 car?
