MDI to RNS 510
« on: 27 August 2012, 22:53 »
hi
next month im going to get an RNS 510 to replace my RCD 310 but what i want to know is will i have problems or lose sound quality playing music through my MDI as ive read about the differences between 2nd and 3rd generation head units and that theres sometimes problems. i was wondering if anyone could tell me what to look for to see what problems i might have and how i can fix them.
thanks Ben.

Mot sure if this help...
I retrofitted an MDI unit when I installed my RNS510. The wiring harness I got was PnP, and the place I got it did not ask whether I had an RNS or RCD. After the retrofit, the MDI works 100%...

As for updating, there are firmware updates on my-gti.com. The module seems to have only been changed this year, and it's the first time there has been a firmware update that is for MY 2012 only.

There are some setting for external sources input levels in one of the menus

Since your swap was a 3rd gen to a 3rd gen I'm not sure it applies, but maybe worth a look.
Have a looky here http://www.my-gti.com/1328/auxiliary-input-audio-sound-quality-problems-after-changing-head-unit
