mk2 16 alternator

got bit of a problem with smoke coming from the alternator.due to my car left standing for the last 2 months i had to use the jump leads on her this morning.when i attempted to charge the battery there was smoke coming from the alternator and the wireing to the starter motor became very hot and was sparking on the connection.now the car has no power at all.any idea's if the alternator is shot?

sure u dint put the negative on the posotive

i hope i didn't.tried it again earlier and there was no smoking but the car still will not start even though it's turning over.taken the leads off and there was no lights on the dash showing when i turned the key.i think i have frazzled the alternator some how

should run on a jump start. sounds like u got the wires mixed. my mate did that once. flattend the battery instantly. sparks all over the place.

check fuses even

i'll try a new battery first.go for the cheaper option.

i think the fuses option first will be the cheaper option
