Diesel or Petrol

The GTI on a manual box is capable of 45mpg if tickling the throttle on a motorway...around the 60-65mph range. 

Why do people say this, as if it justifies getting a petrol completely?

If you do that, having bought a GTI either you're skint, or dead inside.

Spank the diesel and still feel smug at the pumps.

Ye was looking at the Ibiza and Leon frs. Also the audi a3 but only like the brand new shape and there too expensive 2nd hand.

Because until I sold the MK5 I had a GTI and still have access to the missus GTTDI and in no way are they comparable. The GTI drives better and just feels right in the rev range but then again I also love EP3 CTRs and higher rev range. Sit most diesels above 3500rpm and they feel like they are tailing right off...they aren't necessarily but they feel it. And in your own words opinionsRus 

And I may have a Seat Leon TDI on its way as a daily so in now way do I dismiss the TDI. I just love petrol And the way they drive.

Id say diesel as well had a 140 A3 was really good on fuel and fun to drive had alot of poke but insurance cost was fairly high but thats with 0 ncd 

but stuck with diesel and tbh it would take alot for me to change esp with the trips to wales can get about 680 miles to a full tank at the moment and the car isnt really broken in yet

the dpf issue still puts me off the newer diesels...know you can remove them but its still more expensive..have a fews friends / relations with diesels and they've been burned with injector problems and dpf issues.....diesel makes sense above a certain mileage but below it the savings arent there....same year can have a 2k difference in price between petrol and diesel....

If someone could work out roughly the cost it would be greatly appreciated.

Say I was to do 200 miles a week

Petrol say roughly averaging 30mpg

Diesel say roughly averaging 40-45mpg

Petrol 133.9
Diesel 140.9

What would the cost difference be

easier to say that the diesel would cost £65-70 for 500 miles and the petrol same price for around 320-340 miles.

About £40 for the petrol and £28 for the diesel.

Or using the mpg I get from my diesel 56mpg would cost £23

Wow quite a big difference then. Over a month that's quite a big saving.
