After seeing another engine bay I was really disappointed with how mine looked, also decided I didn't like the colour and wanted to get rid of a few more holes.

You need to change the title of this thread - it's misleading and suggests it will be far more interesting than some bloke bu**ering about with his engine bay.  Do you even own a set of ITBs?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Dunno if this is gonna be a daily mate as I haven't read the whole thing, but if it is I can tell you from experience that sinking loads of time and effort into making the underneath look mint is a waste

Looks good though, apart from the purple of course ;)

As above, I've been looking in vain for your ITBd Vr .. started the build yet?

Keep it up :)

Thanks, no its not going to be a daily, i know what you mean but just didn't see the point in doing all the work on the engine bay and leaving everything rusty and crappy looking.
I wasn't keen on the purple so have ordered a nicer darker shade which will look loads better, along with a new spray gun.
I have started on the engine, only really been cleaning and painting things, the head has had new guides, stem seals and been skimmed so need to lap the valves in, inlet mani has been made so just need the silicon hoses to mount the itbs then I can sort the throttle linkage etc. I have been looking at turbod vrs which isn't helping.
also waiting on collecting the gearbox then the block can be sat in the bay once its painted.
I get married in 2 months so I really shouldn't be spending anything on it but I just can't help myself.

This things seems to get 2 steps forward and about 10 back. :angry:
It is my own fault tho I should just do things before I get carried away, I had the bay in high build primer and had just applied the guide coat ready to flat, i had been chatting to a mate about raising the strut tops for extra travel and comfort but as I was so far on with the bay I had kinda decided not to go ahead, well today my mate popped in and within about half an hour we were drilling the spot welds out, heating the underseal and generally scratching up all the fresh primer I had just sprayed.

The tops have been dropped at my mates dads to spin off the bottom plate on the lathe so there 100% straight, ill then order the steel tube and weld them back together and weld back onto the car.

Not updated for a bit been pretty busy with other stuff.
Was out looking for new cars the other week when on the way home the headgasketwent on the daily audi. Placed a deposit down on the car went to look at the engine got ripped out the Audi for the mk3, the mk3 was originally going to go itbd vr6 but the 1.8t was always gonna make its way in, it's just a bit sooner than planned.
I've ordered a t3/t4 turbo for it so it'll get a few other bits done ready to go in.

Still on with the bay, had a few hours on it today putting in the raised topmounts, these have been raised 30mm, I've also flipped the mounts on the coilovers which has given me about another 30mm so all in all should be able to drive lowish and still have plenty of comfort.

I'm assuming you've checked the bonnet will still close?

I like smooth bays in a MK3, the only bit that annoys me though is when people remove the arch liners leaving a great big hole showing a nice chunk of dirty tyre. Any plans to fabricate something to fill the holes?
