Rcd510 - installation
« on: 24 August 2012, 06:37 »
Morning all, I'm going to be installing the above today. Any tips or things to watch out for?

Damaging the dash as you pry the trim fascia off, go careful with something made of plastic

We've got to pick the wife's cab up in a bit so I'm tempted to make cheeky request and get the dealer to do it.

Might be worth it, if there is a tech free it should only take a couple of minutes cos it won't need coding.

Just do it yourself, you're not going to damage the trim if you're careful, use a cloth around a knife or something to get it off. What if VW damage it? They're probably less likely to care than you are. If they're doing it as a favour, I doubt you could get them to replace anything they damage either.

If I was at home I would screenshot Elsa which shows where the clips are located for the trim. It's fairly straightforward though. I wouldn't be afraid of pulling it. I don't think it's exactly expensive to replace if you break any clips, it's the dash you've gotta watch you don't damage.

There is a picture on THIS page showing the clips.

If you could get some plastic trim tools that would be the best bet. You can get them on Ebay for a couple of pounds.
