Vr6 motor from carado into mk3 vr6?
« on: 23 August 2012, 12:40 »
Hi lads,

I'm curious... Will the motor from a carado (vr6) fit into my mk3 vr6? Ie, mountings and wiring all the same?

You will need the ecu and engine loom aswell as the engine. Can i ask why you would want to do this swap?

It is a 2.9 instead of 2.8.

Well a knock has devolved in my vr6 when I start her from cold, so I figure il check out my options before I do anything. Also the carado I believe is 190bhp... Extra 20bhp would be nice

It is a 2.9 instead of 2.8.

The extra cc isn't even 100.
It's only 50ish IIRC.
And it gives very little of the power gain...

The ABV upper inlet manifold and TB give the majority of the gain.
They are a good upgrade to an AAA VR6, as long as it's an early one...the so called OBD1 type.

Also, the head gasket from a US Mk4 VR6 is a good addition. It takes the CR up from 10.0:1 to 10.5:1.
That, plus the ABV upper manifold and TB will give a mapped AAA as much power (if not more) than a ABV, but without the added 'Corrado VR6' tax often applied to the ABV engines.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

The two engines are 2792cc and 2861cc, not a huge difference

Thought so it's like a spacer plate then similar to when you reduce the compression when you turbo a vr?
