RNS 510 and Bluetooth Kit
« on: 21 August 2012, 22:23 »
hi guys,
ive got an 09 plate mk6. its got an RCD 310 and i want to upgrade it to a RNS 510 with a bluetooth kit. id prefer the RNS 510 to be one of the newer versions where you can watch DVDs while you drive and with updated maps and a bluetooth kit that works with the latest iPhone. anyone know the best place to buy this and to install it?
thanks Ben.

Hi Ben

When you buy a RNS they don't automatically play the DVD's while'st in motion...it's a mod that can be done tho...do a search and you will find out all you need to know!

Not sure where to buy, but you'll need the following:
  • RNS510 (preferably with a * button)
  • Latest Bluetooth module (goes under driver's seat)
  • Bluetooth module to RNS510 cable (see above)
  • Microphone cable for Bluetooth (see above)
  • GPS antenna for RNS510 (probably comes with RNS510)
  • Bluetooth antenna for module (see above)
  • Firmware 4020, Maps 7.2, DVD fix (configured by a CD)
  • Someone with VAG-COM to tell the car you have new kit installed (search this forum for the codes needed)

So, not a complicated job, but you need a few bits of kit to get it all working. I may have left stuff off.

Is it the same Bluetooth related parts to work with the RCD510 as I want to add this ASAP?

I have version 7690 which I thought were v7.2 Western Europe. Some website report this version to be v8.0, but it is tricky to work it out!

Where do you live? I could always pop my VAG-COM cable in the post and you send it back. £20 beer money seems to be the going rate!

PM me if you need help with the maps, firmware or VAG-COM.
