DODGY BUYER NAME AND SHAME.
« on: 04 July 2005, 13:10 »
Name and shame time....

In April I sold Mr Richard Ellison of Reading/Leeds a chrome grille for his Mk1 Cabriolet. Sent him a picture, he OK'd it and sent me £50 via paypal. I sent the grille out to him.

No problems until June, when he emailed to say I hadn't sent him the two chrome parts for the light surrounds. I thought I had, because I was a set down, but I thought I'd be a nice guy, and sent him another pair that I had, at next day delivery. He then asked me to send them to a different address.

A couple of days later he emailed to say I haven't sent him the plastic parts for the lights surrounds, and he filed a paypal case against me. The case was an "Item not recieved" one, which was BS in the first place.

I phoned paypal twice, and emailed the photograph, dated timeline of the transaction, forwarded all of our correspondance, and a tracking number for the chrome surrounds that I sent him. I didnt have one from the april parcel to hand, but I sent them the dated emails which plainly say "recieved the parcel".

Just come back from holiday to find that the automatic paypal resolution system, has automatically decided in his favour because I hadn't responded. I today found out that phoning and emailing paypal wasnt enough, I had to go through the online thing, which didn't give me the option of saying my side of the story, as Mr Ellison had indeed recieved the item he had paid for.

I'm not going to buy two more light surrounds from VW because the nearest dealer is about 40 miles away in the wrong direction, and send them to him at more expense because Ive already lost about £20 through postage and packaging from the original £50, and they only cost about £2 each.

I have tried contacting Mr Ellison, to say that I would indeed offer him a refund if he sent me the items back, but the moment I said my name on the phone, he hung up.

Just rang paypal, who said that since I didnt do their auto resolution thing, it decided in his favour, and refunded him from my account. But I could appeal!

So, in total I've lost my chrome grille, 2 sets of light surround trims, £50 and the money I spent on P&P.

Anyone live in Reading?

Sounds like a nightmare!
I'm having one of those wierd 'that name's familiar' moments, would I be right in thinking there is a Richard Ellison that uses this site???

Yeah, there is. I met him at the Surrey meet. Seemed a decent chap tbh, really suprised at this post. Sounds like a communication breakdown that has gone horribly wrong :undecided:

So do I, but it's been going on for about 3 months now.

He'll get his refund when he sends me my grille back. Simple as that.

Fraud/obtaining goods by deception is a criminal offence if you can prove he has received the grille , ie emails etc and paypal have taken the original £50 or whatever back out of you account and repaid the buyer his money it should not be hard to prove.

*gets out the toasting fork, marshmallows and camping stove and waits for piggy to come along*

I do have tracking numbers and emails confirming that he has receieved the grille. All have which have been forwarded to paypal.

If he doesn't contact me soon, then I'll take things further.
