There is something just not right about the red lines on the lights.

They are obviously trying to run the red from the grille to the upper part of the bumper panel. This makes the line look squint to me.

I wonder if running the line parallel along the bottom of the light may have worked?

With it being a concept, how likley do we think it is that it will have the line into the lights? I'm not sure tbh, i quite like it but think i'd have prefered to have 2 lines again.

"Interesting to hear that there may not be an R in RHD guise thanks to the unpopularity of the model in the UK, as obviously VW are surprised that not many people can afford to blow £35k+ on a shopping car"

This made me chuckle but the fact that VW finds it surprising that nobody's buying them at that price in these economic times just astonishes me. At what point do you they'll realise they're taking the mick?

Another report from gay Paris by Evo mag: http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/286729/updated_vw_golf_gti_revealed_at_the_paris_motor_show.html

Anyway, back to the GTI; seems like £900 is being mooted which I guess isn't bad for big brakes and the trick diff fully supported by warranty. Unless we get sceptical here too and find out most of the diff features and the extra 10bhp can be conned out of the ECU via VCDS anyway?

Who wants to bet the standard model comes with the existing 312mm discs and the "performance" model comes with the R32 345mm discs? Which are effective but very HEAVY.

Now = 2011 MK6 GTI - Reflex Silver
Past = 2006 MK5 GTI - Tornado Red and Solid Black

That will be the likely scenario unless the MQB uses slightly different hubs and possibly lighter brakes (and thus the new R, Cupra and S3 will also have them). The Leon Cupra always had the 245mm brakes @ 240bhp. Interesting to note that some of the mk7 GTIs on show had the little side bumper splitters and some didn't so we will have to assume the Sport Pack will have these. Again though, we can but speculate as the show car is only supposed to be a production viable design study.

Who wants to bet the gti won't even be 50kg lighter than the current model after the reports of it being around 100kg lighter.

I think it the euro convention of mentioning the disk size as relating to the minimum wheel it will fit in, not the actual disk size. IE min wheels size for those disks and brakes would be 17". 17" disks would be humungous!

Found in another thread

Current figures are very disappointing (copied from another forum). If correct the Golf has more steel versus aluminium compared to the new A3.

The 75-100Kg weight savings have evaporated into much less (unless the kit has significantly improved).

MK-7

1.2 85PS 1205 (5-speed manual) 24KG saving
1.4 140PS 1270 (6-speed manual) 20KG saving
1.6 105PS 1295 (5-speed manual) 19KG saving

MK-6

1.2 85PS 1229 (5-speed manual)
1.4 122PS 1290 (6-speed manual)
1.6 105PS 1314 (5-speed manual)

One quick point if you buy Autocar with week (26 Sep) its got a full A3 TDI Sport review.

They claim the 18" wheels are flow formed and weigh no more compared to the 17" wheels.

What is flow forming?

Prices and specs of lowlier models out today.

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-Results/Industry-News/VW-Golf-2012---prices-for-new-Mk7-Golf-from-16330/

I may be able to tolerate a Mkkkkk7 after all if it's a similar price to the Mk6 but all the extras I had on mine (18 inch alloys, cruise control, folding mirrors) are included in the price as they seem to be on the GT spec.

Having said that, knowing VW, they'll take all that lot out for some spurious reason and make us all pay for them as extras!!!
