Hi All

I have a strange problem, my mk3 anni has been running like a dream ever since i got her until today!

Basically I used a vgate VS450 to check & clear the fault codes for my abs light & now the car wont start!

The immobilizer turns off as normal but the car wont fire up, no ticking noises & the odd thing is the oil light flashes when i try to turn the engine.

I have tried re-setting the ecu by disconnecting the battery but it made no difference!

HELP!!

sounds like coil failure to me...test for earthing signal at the three pin connector. if you have a switching earth chances are everything else is fine just no spark produced from coil.

Hi Dan

Thanks for the reply, it was a coil failure! I have a brand new one to pick up in the morning but today i got one from the local scrappy for £5 to check, the car started first time.

Prior to this a friend was unable to access the ecu with a KTY600(?) as it was blocked. We got the car running & he updated my ecu with a snap-on reader It doesn't sound right now it is running though so i am doing an oil & filter change after taking a look at the cam 2moro as the tappets are very noisy.

Also I now need 2 new lambda sensor's & abs ecu

Apologies, this was a typo as i was posting from my phone yesterday.

This morning the car had difficulty starting & when it did ran like a bag of nails  new ecu en route now.

After speaking to the offical re-seller of the fault reader he told me there was a known issue with mk3 golf's that have had the original stereo taken out, apparantly an aftermarket stereo turn's one of the pin's in the ODB live.....(no good knowing this now) the guy also tried to convince me that the fault reader would be damaged & not the car's ecu.

i have given my car brain damage
