Swap spare tyre onto 16 turbo wheel

Hi, been polishing my mk4 turbo today and I noticed the front NS Conti tyre gashed probably by a pot hole, I was thinking damn new tyre but then had a thought and the steel spare has a new Michelin on, same size 205/55 16 R so I guess although its coming of a steel spare it would fit the 16 turbo alloy ok??

Probably a stone wall simple question but want to make sure! If I hadnt just booked a holiday I would of just gone and got 2 new Conti's on it tomorrow,

It might explode on you buddy  if its exactly the same it will be fine !

Yeah will be a direct swap...

BUT.... Have a look at the date when the tyre was made. If its been on the spare since the car was made it could be cracked etc in areas.

Thanks mate - I looked at the spare (Michelin) and it looks fresh and in really good nick, cant see any cracking or aging, taking it down the tyre place in the morning - thanks again

when you say gash? sounds like curb damage if its cut into the tyre not pothole, has it gone into a bleb? if theres no cords showing and theres no bleb its fine to use

Hi well I had it swapped this morning, the spare is a new tyre and in good condition, the guy did say it may of been ok to use but oh well, got a new Michelin on the front now, the one that came off (old Conti) was looking rather old and the gash was on the curve where the tread meets the sidewall, it didnt look good to me, especially as I do use it on the M'Way from time to time.
