Advice on getting one car from A to B
« on: 15 August 2012, 22:21 »
Hi, hi. Kempie bullied me into getting my own account, because he hates it when I ask for help because he's too proud. But as a nagging wife, I'll do what I please

Basically, he's just put a deposit on a MK3 diesel estate, which is up in Milton Keynes, the guy was supposed to bring it down on friday, because it's still insured in his name, and insurance wont be changed until it gets here, but apparently something has come up, so now we're thinking of any way possible of getting it back here without said owner. What are the chances of him getting it back to Kettering, without having to insure it on the day of getting it etc, etc.

He's going up (unless he can find someone to tow it) in his sh!tty (sorry, I know this is a big big blasphemy, and I love VWs as much as the next person, but she isn't in my good books) golf, and not getting rid of that until friday evening.

Can he tow it back with his car (or someone elses, if possible) if the car isn't insured under his name?

This probably made no sense, but I only come on here for the T&A thread, which you're really lacking in updating, so I don't know much about anything else, any info would be good, please & thank you!

If the vehical is still insured by the owner and you are fully comp on your insurance its pretty likely you will be insured 3rd party on the vehicle you are buying, with the owners consent of course.
Double check your car policy tho because not all comprehensive insurances allow this.

So, he'd be able to tow it back assuming that the owner is okay with him being a 3rd party?

Don't want to lose the car before he gets it lol.

He could drive the car back, providing its road legal, still insured by the owner (or somebody) and your insurance policy allows you to drive other vehicles with the owners consent (most Fully comp policies offer this)
If this is the case then it would be best to get the train up to collect the car
Alternatively you can get insured for the day providing the car is road legal, last time I did it I think it was about £40

Ah okay.

I shall have a word with the hubby and see what he says, sooner rather than later would be good lol! Hopefully he'll listen to my reasoning now, hehe.

Thank you very much! :)

this wont be legal as you will own the car after leaving previous owners house

This is right, plus he won't be able to legally tow it either unless it was on a trailer. Uninsured Car can't touch public roads, just play it safe and insure it and collect it.
