Smoking while driving is no where near as distracting as talking on a phone. It takes no concerntratio or effort and you can still keep both hands on the wheel when not taking drag.

Nick

Disagree.

There must be some concentration and effort. How are you getting the cigarette out? How are you lighting it? There must be at lease one hand that's not controlling the car at the time, exactly like using a phone.

Well I used to just light it and stub it out at a traffic light or something (hence not smoking on motorway or similar), and you only have to have one hand off the wheel briefly every so often to take a pull.

I suppose you have your hands at 10 to 2 100% of the time though?

or change the radio channel, point the vent a different way, adjust the rear view mirror or even change gears

Thats equipment of the car though.
And an ashtray isnt?

Your point being? The seat next to you is equipment of the car, but what you put in it isn't. So if your phone is there, you shouldn't touch it, if you put a laptop there, you shouldn't touch it.

shouldn't be touching the radio, or other equipment either, people have been done for doing that as its a distraction but its still in a car

and you dont have a point that is my point

A burning ember whilst driving is dangerous. If you can't drive a car without having something that you just can't do without due to addiction, then you need mental attention.
80% of your posts are total tripe, as they are mostly replies to sh1te posts created by the morons that, unfortunately this forum attracts.

Is this even a serious argument? I have always smoked in my car and not once has it caused a distraction.

This is in no way comparable to being on the phone, texting or the like.

I think adjusting the rear view mirror causes more distraction if anything!

Hasn't caused a distraction yet?

Who is to say you look down, to get a tab from the packet, you look up and crash bang wallop. It is a non essential task which may lead to an incident.

I agree with you on the mirror thing...But why would you be adjusting it during travel? Pretty sure mine stays in the same place over night.

If I had a BENTLEY I would be smoking huge Cuban cigars!

If I had a Bentley I'd be smoking a dang baton wrapped in a banana leaf. And I'd flick the ash on the passenger seat.....fcuk it why not!

Might even wipe a bogey under the seat if I'm feeling adventurous!
