Summerhouses

Basically I am looking for a summerhouse but having trouble finding what I want, went to a few garden centers to find I am even more disappointed. Basically the ideal size would be 6x10ft but will settle for 6x8.

• Not interested in veranda's
• Entrance must be at front (possibly side if 6x8)
• Not bothered about single or double doors
• Must be around £700

I've seen a few very close within the price range but something ruins it such as the addition of the viranda and no option not to have it or it only comes in a size that I do not want such as 7x7. The idea is it will fill the garden which is 12ft wide at the back and leave a foot each side for maintenance, if a 6x10 is possible. Other idea that has crossed my mind is building one, what are your thoughts on this, I built a gazebo with my brother out of wood a while back and thats about 6x10 and that set us back around £600, so it doesn't seem to me that buying a pre-built one would be any dearer.

Any thoughts or summerhouses appreciated

Bear in mind you will need planning permission if it is over a 30m2 or takes up more than a certain % of the footprint of the original house (these values change depending on whether a terrace or detached)

Thanks, just looked it up 15m^2 is for a terraced property or no more than 50% for outbuildings and decking combined. Mine is just over 5.5m^2 (if 6x10) so shouldn't be a problem and only maybe consuming 20% max. Thanks for the tip, completely forgot about the whole overkill building reg nonsense that now exists! The whole building regs really wind me up, like outbuildings (sheds etc and decking) cannot consume more than 50%, however patios are allowed to consume the whole garden. There is some sensible logic behind it, but then there's also really retarded logic behind other parts of it.

Its like some of the daft things in the regs regarding lofts that crack me up as well, as thats next on the list after this. But with any work I have done, I have closely done with a good civil engineer friend with 25+years of experience to make sure what I am doing is correct and loads are fine etc... But then there's also ways round regs as some of it is just nonsense.

I'm embroiled in building reg stuff at the moment, so I am digging through paperwork quite a bit.

Although mine is slightly different to yours as regs won't apply to the actual structure as it's a separate entity to the house, unlike my soon to be conservatory/extension/extenservatory??

Well... Thats is the first thing I did, but found them not to suite what I am after, plus looking at some sites things looked great, but when reading reviews about some of the sites things didn't look to appealing with problems people had, but the waltons one was not thrown up in my google shop search and I have seem to have found two sheds/summerhouses that meet the criteria.

What are peoples experiences from building them from scratch, from what I can tell the sheds from stock look pretty good with 12mm wood.

Also is there any means of insulating a shed? Not to the extreme end where its warm in snow but thats its fairly warm and doesn't heat too much in the sun? Yes I have checked google but its not being to helpful for me, instead all its said is the shed needs to breath and keeps offering or pointing to professional services?

Tbh to build one  for £700  it won't be worth it!

Concrete base, electricity to the summer house? Bumps up the costs!
