what the hell to do!
« on: 13 August 2012, 11:51 »
I stupidly sold my corrado for silly money because it had some issues that were stressing me out, so I got rid!

I then went and bought a mk3 golf gti that had been converted by stealth to a vr6 using a 2.9 odb1

The car has tons of receipts from stealth , g werks etc

The car has schimmel cams, schrick, hi spec 4 pots, wietec coilovers, front and rear arbs, front and rear strut braces, colour concept interior

well it turns out a car with so much info and money spent on it and its still a bloody lemon! its worse than my rado!

I was working on it a couple weeks ago when my hispec brakes need sorting and found a hole in the floor from the rubber bungs rotting out!
The floor has been jacked up on and damaged!

I thought i would go see my mate who is a welder to see how hard it would be to fix it all! while i was there we decided to take of the gti side skirts!
What a mistake! the car is shot to bits

The drivers outer sill is total shot and needs replacing plus the damage from someone putting a jack throught the floor pan and some prick bodging it up

I dont know if i should fix it or break it!?!?

I am trying to save to buy a new house and fell its a bloody money pit :(

Buy another mk3 with a better shell and swap all the parts over.

You could cut the entire sill out and weld new ones in, its not all that difficult on the MK3.  Those sill covers are a nightmare for doing this.

I would have a right pain in the arse re shelling it due it not being a vr6, it was a gti that has been converted

Part of me thinks i should just try and fix it, then i just think i am trying to save :(

If the rest of the car is solid and clean then maybe its worth considering, if you have the ability to do the welding/painitng yourself (or a good mate) its not to difficult.
(GTI Jamo and T Shirt 2k have some good info and pics on there build threads)
If not then find another clean car and swap out the good bits or just break to make your dosh back.

First bit I check on MK3's are the jacking points, if the front ones are bent then they are always f**ked behind the platic cover

Got new sills fitted and it was fine. No great drama here mate!

Sills are pretty simple to do if you know what your doing as is the floor bungs. You can get non oem sills off the internet for £25. I had never done any work like it before doing my mk3 and it turned out pretty good to the point where you can't tell its been done. Some info in my build thread below.
