Maybe it can be of help to you guys to tell you what I did:

Fuelpump can be switched off (switch in a hard to detect place)
OBD-port can be swiched off (switch in a hard to detect place)
Doorlock removed (car can only be opened with keyfob around)
Alarm plus (interior as well)
Alarmtime reduced from 15 sec to 0 sec (Vagcom)
Alarm chirp (Vagcom)
Bearlock (DSG can be locked with a key)

If they take my GTI a second time I will consider it the will of God.

I don't think you need extra security in the shape of an immobiliser as they need the key to drive it away or will just lift it onto a flat bed if they want to take it?

Extra security for me would look like a tracker (but then remember that as tracker systems are not advertised on the car it is only a post-theft advantage to get your car recovered - it won't stop the theft). Secondly, security film if you want to prevent 'smash and grab' with you in the car or when it is parked up.

Most important I think is a good quality insurance policy that covers you with all mods declared etc. as well as GAP insurance so that if it does go, you know you are covered

They don't need the keys any more, you can buy kit of Ebay which can program a new key through the OBD port.

Doing what Erik said above, switching of the OBD port with a hidden switch, should sort that one out.

Mike. are you saying they can do this on VWs (I know it was a flaw in BMWs recently) but not heard of it on any other manufacturer esp. VW?

Unfortunately yes, the last time I looked all manufacturers were covered.

Keyless entry makes it much easier as you don't need a cut key or worry about the steering lock.
