Noisey Tappets??

Right, just before i try and replace a noisey tappet by replacing the lot, i thought i'd just run it by you guys as there are some pretty clued up guys that have saved me a small fortune with my Golf turbo.   

Any ways its a AUM golf 1.8 turbo, and the problem lies in what i have been told is a noisey tappet but i'm unsure as it doesn't do it all the time.

If i start the car, there's no noise, ticks over perfect, and is still quiet untill the engine gets hot (i'll say hot but its just normal operating temp) then it starts to "tap" from the top end somewhere. But, if you rev the engine the noise stops but returns when the revs drop back to tickover. If the engine cools and i try again after an hour the noise has gone but comes back again when hot. Driving, when the car is up to temp, the noise can't be heard but when stopped at traffic lights or turns and the engine is on tickover, the "tap" is back but again, is gone when normal driving resumes.  Now in my eyes, if the tappet has failed it would but noisey from the start and be there thru the rev range....or am i just talking boll@x?

I dont think its a problem mate, I either think its your coil packs ticking away or maybe the carbon canistor as they are bloody noisy on times 

I doubt its your tappets

carbon canister or the injectors mate! nothing to worry about my agu ticks like mad if its warm and you let it idle blip the revs and it goes away then comes back, now thats the carbon canister its down the left hand side of the engine pal near the coolant bottle

Don't think its the carbon canister as the noise comes from the right side near the dump valve.

Is a injector easy to replace.....more annoying than anything!!

theres nothing really wrong with it mate to be honest. they all tick newer cars are even worst you ever listened to the new 2.0 tsi engines they put in new gtis they tick mega loud,

you could try some injector cleaner i gess but i dont think theres owt really wrong with your car to be honest

Coil packs it could be even so there meant to tick anyway.
Im not to sure on this but theres a vacuum thing on top of the rocker cover next to the coil packs on the AUM's this people remove or bypass I dunno whether it makes any noises etc as I have the simple AGU.

Other than that theres nothing that of engine that could tick that I know of.

Phew....so glad i'm wrong then on the tappet front.

But when i say it "taps", its like a really load click. More annoying than anything as it sounds sweet whilst otherwise.
