I am starting to do more and more miles in the Golf so I am trying to keep on top of it. My problem is I am being told different things and I am not sure what to believe. I have searched this and I am still unsure, I am not the best mechanic granted but willing to learn.
There is a grinding sound that comes from the gearbox when the clutch pedal is released. I thought this may be the clutch release bearing (accessed by removing the green cap), so I replaced this but still no better. 1 mechanic now tells me that the boxs are noisy anyway and that there is still plenty of life in it, another said that I would need a new box and someone else said it is nothing to do with the gearbox and is the clutch!!??!
There is no problem changing gears other than 1st to second when cold sometimes so I have no idea. I would be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.
