I must admit, the 2.0 16v idea is becoming more & more appealing each day. But i'm reluctant to sell my Mk3 for another simply because my past 2 MOT's, it's sailed through with flying colour's, not even one advisory. So i'll be looking to transplant a 16V lump into mine :) Plus there's no lack of machanical expertise in the family, my dad's spent ages tearing down various scooby engine's. So once fund's allow the find of a donor 16V, i'll be playing grease monkey again lol

I dont think the mk3 has more scope than a mk4 you can do just as much to a mk4 as you can to a mk3 and the 1.8t engine will give you more BHP without spending lots of money where the 16v to get bigger BHP you will need to spend more money and still not see big gains. As for the looks of each car well its down to personal opinion and what styling you like as this is in the mk3 section most are going to say to the mk3 looks best me personally depends on how the cars styled but like all the Golfs if there styled nice they can all look as good as each other.
