Im losing a little oil...
« on: 09 August 2012, 16:43 »
and i mean only a little bit but was wondering if there was an explaination.

Ok so, i've bought the car recently (1991 Mk2 8v gti) and have started going through all the little niggles and issues you get with a 21 year old car.
im getting a small seepage of oil coming out of the cam cover breather , mine is missing the pipe that returns it to the air intake (which has been blocked off as you can see by the blue pipe)

I've only just found out that the engine has had the 2.0 8v mk3 bottom end fitted at some point in its life, could the extra capacity/compression be forcing oil out more than usual?
I check the dipstick regularly and its not losing enough to affect the level at all.

Is there a fix i can do as the smell of burning oil isnt pleasant , or is it just simply get an oil catch tank?

cheers,
Ben

its just the breather you are smelling as its vent to atmosphere - just plumb it back in

i did think of that but it would just be dropping oil into the intake system which isnt ideal?

its literally only oil residue, it wont cause any issues. its also an MOT fail for a breather to vent to atmosphere

I would just get the little K&N filter and leave the pipe. You will just end up with gunk in the inlet
:)
