new coil pack & car takes longer to start
« on: 07 August 2012, 22:32 »
as some may know my car broke down a few weeks ago and it was the coil pack got a replacement from my mate (ozzie bizzle) but its a replacement part not genuine or bosch, anyway problem is that when i start my car it takes a few more seconds and also the full power aint there. i will be trying a diffrent coil pack from mad4vws to see if that cures it.
I also i wanted to know if i can get an uprated coil pack (delivers a higher voltage)?? i think the coil pack is rated as 85kw?
its a 3 pin 1, i have magnecore uprated HT leads aswell.

thanks

Coilpacks will break down if you have iffy leads, could be what killed your coil pack and why you have a problem now.....

Clear the BS leads out of the car and replace with OEM.

Make sure your coil earths are all good.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

ok just been to mad4vw's, we took the spark plugs out to see if they in good nick. well they are brown & according to haynes manual they are in good condition but we noticed that all of the plugs had... well let me show you

look on the tips of the plug and you see some lime green deposits, im abit baffled, wtf is that? i run on V power ALL time dont use fuel from anyone else unless its shells V power.

these plugs have been in the car for a few years.

With high horsepower V8's I have dealt with in the past yellow or green deposits normally mean the spark has jumped and the porcelain has got hot. Is the porcelain dull or shiny? Can be down to a car running rich or being over fuelled at idle for a long period....

Think you have kind of answered it yourself by saying the plugs have been in there a few years.Think your meant to change them at least once a year or depending on what mileage your covering about every 20,000

its only an 8v GTI so not running more then 120-130 horses lol,
they defo aint been in there for 20k miles (i think just over 20k), il get some good 1's from bizzle.
he said his got some NGK's tripple electrodes grade 7? that mean anything?
he said that grade 7 run better then grade 6 as once the car gets hot the grade 6 plugs dont fire enough and can cause premature detination & grade 7 run at high temps and you will feel the power even when the car is hot.
i will buy these from him and report back to see if there is any diffrence in power when the car is hot.

thanks people for all your help.

I know the engine, I was stating where I had seen this before and the causes...it can happen in a lawn mower motor over time if the plug is weak.

Detonation could of happened with those plugs as the spark seems to have jumped on those old plugs and caused the porcelain to weaken, hence the deposits.

I would use NGK's any day of the week over any other plugs regardless of grade. I don't think you will ever have a need to run top spec in the 8v but it's better to be safe than sorry.
