Lights on buzzer and door chime
« on: 02 July 2005, 13:59 »
Hi, should my L reg (94) 16v have a "lights on buzzer"?
Ive also seen mentioned a chime sound that goes off when you open the doors??

I have none of these :undecided:

Anyone know what i should check or look out for and the location of the buzzer/chime speaker to check that i have even got one?

Thanks in advance

My '96 P reg 8v has a lights on buzzer, I think most cars made in the last 10 - 15 years do.

I don't get a chime when I open the doors with the lights off, maybe the later Mk4s have this feature :undecided:. A friend of mine has an 05 reg Passat as a company car which has a door open chime, his previous 51 reg one had this feature as well.

Out of interest, do you get a bleeper alarm go off if you take the keys out of the ignition but leave the stereo face on? I have this with the factory fit Sony head unit and also my aftermarket Sony head unit.

Sorry, but I wouldn't know where to look for a buzzer/chime. I would assume it would be somewhere in the dash if anywhere.

Even my Series 1 rs turbo has a buzzer and thats 20 years old
Ive got the Sony CDXNC9950 head unit and the front doesnt come off so it doesnt bleep.
Im wondering if its on a fuse that has blown possibly, i will have to check my Haines manual later.
Its not a problem, i just like things to work as they should.
As for the door chime, i didnt know it did it either until i saw an old post on here when i searched for "chime". Bit of a mixed response on that. :undecided:

my mk3 makes a buzzing sound if I leave the lights on and open the drivers door, no chimes tho!!!!

And I get no sounds at all out of the mk2, which again goes to show the superiority of the mk3

I know that all Sony units bleep when the front is not removed, but that is an in built thing in the head unit and nothing to do with the lights on buzzer.

Even the Haines manual doesnt mention the buzzer

If i new where it was i could start looking

I've got an M-reg 94 16v GTi and there's no lights-on buzzer or door chime. Could have been added when the model was updated.

Earlier mk3s didn't have a lights on warning buzzer/door chime and I'm sure that the fusebox/relay plate differs slightly to the later mk3 ones that have this ,so you can't just plug a relay in .You will need to wire it up separately
