Insurance time

My insurance is due for renewal on the 20th and as I have a bit of time on my hands I thought I phone around and gets some quotes.

I started with L&V online quote;  and their site did not quite me, error or something. So then I phoned them and spoke to a person and went through all the rigmarole and no they would not quote me even with me being a CSMA/Britannia Rescue member. I guess me being a 'young' driver with a GTi?
Next I tried Direct Line and got a quote of £811 w/£350 excess.  Not bad, but still about £300 more than I am currently paying. Then I tried Natwest car insurance (being that I bank with them) and got a online quote of £891 w/£450 ex Ouch!  Then I gave in and tried Compare the Meerkat...I mean Market and got SwiftCover at £431 w/£500 - would not use these are everything is online. The next reputable company was Privilege at £531 w/ a whopping £750 excess.

I then phoned up my current insurance co - Keith Michaels who I have been insured with for since 2006 when I had my Impreza (modified), then Yaris TSport Mk2, then two Volvo S60R's and now the GTi. The quote he is sending me is £625. Not bad, bit less than last year.

Then I thought forums! Signed in and looked at the Insurance section and called Greenlight Insurance and got a lovery quote of £560 FCP.

Who else to try?
I am a 27 year old male with 9 years NCB live in a quiet area, good post code.

Sounds like you got a good quote there. The forum insurers are Greenlight, HIC and Sky Insurance. All well worth a quote from as they specialise in the more enthusiast area of the market and offer discounts just for being a member on here :)

Just got off the phone with Rebecca at Chris Knott and have beaten Greenlight by £22.  Decisions, decisions.

Yes you are right about these types of insurers and being more for the enthusiasts like us on here. Its al; very well getting a quote from the regulars Avivia, Direct Line, L&V if you have a eurobox, bit not if you have a specialist car like the GTi.

Absolutely, if we get a non-club member customer phoning us for a quotation, we usually recommend they join one of our affiliated clubs.
