As other people have said mate if you have to ask its not for you a tatto is something personal and only you can decide what you want I started with one on my forearm with a bunch of mates and now I hate it but I have been addicted for years I have them on almost every part of me now I have a full half a waistcoat on my left side not really a waistcoat but you know what I mean and that's all tribal I have a whole back piece aswell being done my other arm both legs on my neck and my wife says if I get anymore she will devorce me lol :laugh:
But if you do make sure it's what you want mate and will be happy with it
Also do your homework on tatto artists and make sure they are good even if you have to pay a bit extra

don't be drunk when getting one, I have a tattoo on my ankle  :grin: although it has also helped me pull  :laugh: :laugh:

dont agree with this.

his need to ask says to me he wants a tatto for the sake if it so he can look "cool"

put some thought into it. What do you want. a sleve. a arm peice. a chest peice. something small and inconspicous. ....or something like what steve posted

what style do you want. chineese. arabic. or do you not want wrighting. You say you want something for your boy/family. doesent have to be wrighting. could be important dates. meaningfull images or symbols.  or could be a important/meaningfull paragraph.

once you have an idea of something you like pop into your local tattoo shop and discuss it with them. they can sketch something up. Give it to you. you go away and say no i dont like it. or yeah i like it but how about having something like this put into it. then they can sketch it up again. see what you like.

Get an idea, think on it for a bit. Then go in and get it the f**k done

If it fades, get it touched up.

Get a good artist, pay proper money, get it done right.

My grandad and Great grandad both had some sick tattoos that still looked awesome when they each passed. An neither of the regretted any of them!
