Thanks for all the ideas guys, I will try with some mole grips, my sink slide grips are pants, if no joy I'll try some old bits over the top.

Think I will order some irwin's too.

Will let y'all know.

Is it defiantly rounded off? The correct bit that fits isn't a normal Torx bit its got more points on it and fits snugly.

Yea it's defiantly rounded, and I have the correct m8 spline tool.
I got fed up with trying under the car so I have now removed the complete engine/gearbox and subframe assembly as one. Hopefully that will mean today I can get up close and personal with it. If I get no joy I will chisel the head off and then extract the remaining stud.
Although tbh I might not even bother as I'm binning the engine/gearbox anyway.......

Well I got the f**k*r out with a hammer & chisel eventually! Next questions guys....

What size are the hub nuts and the steering wheel nut on an 8v.

Also need to fit 100mm flanges to the mk4 gear box, problem is mk4 ones have a single hex bolt, mk2 ones are, I think, the push in type (no hex bolt or circlip under plastic cover).

Will the push fits fit into the mk4 box?
