2000rpm idle?
« on: 25 July 2012, 21:37 »
ello!

well i only just got my golf up and running last week and its already playing up again.

after a new clutch, oil sills on the gearbox and rocker cover, oil sensor plug & ICV (which was a royal pain) on the drive home i notcied it was difficult to stop when braking.
when i stopped it was idling at 2000rpm! and slowly rising. miffed  angry as i said i recently changed the ICV because it was idling all over the place and trying to stall. the new ICV sorted that and i've been driving about for a week now.

i'm not too sure what it is but somethings telling me its the throttle body but i wanted to make sure it couldnt be something else so has anyone else got some easyer (an cheaper) suggestions for me?

thanks!

p.s. sorry for the double post i just need info asap.

Possible you have an air leak, squirt some brake cleaner around the intake gaskets while its ticking over (well in your case racing) engine revs should change if engine gets a sniff of it and check your vac lines.

+1

Check your vac lines if the abf has them? Can't remember

Make sure things like manifold, TB, induction pipes are secured properly + have gaskets on them

well i sprayed some brake cleaner around the whole system and there was no change in RPM so i dont think its a vacuum leak.

anything else anyone recommends?

Clean your throttle body out as mentioned. Do the revs go up with the smallest touch of the accelerator? (Imagine it was ticking over normal and you went to pull of) If not sticky throttle body or cable? Might not be fully releasing. Just a thought

A air leak will do this too. Start it up and if it idles at 1500 rpm, rev it and if it settles to 2000rpm sure to be air leak.

If it's the throttle body sticking you test that buy pushing the butterfly shut after revving it with the throttle
