Where are you based? do a search here to find your local VW dealers webpage and go by all prices they quote.

Thanks again for all your input everyone, I've done all this, the only reason I was considering using that same vw dealer that's always serviced it, is if they would offer me some incentives as the prev owner told me VW occasionally give free aircon refresh etc...

Even with this it's still extortionate so this is my plan: plugs ngk201-halfords, oil&filter&sump plug-vw, pipercross air filter&pollen-eBay, Ferrari458engine&gearbox-my dreams, all installed by me.

VW want £479 for belt and water pump, but a mate recommends me a vw specialist who only uses VAG parts, and here is their quote:

"Timing belt kit+pump fitted £285 +vat. If hydraulic damper req £86.54 +vat, alternator belt £32.32 +vat"

I was thinking to do my servicing with a camera and stick it on YouTube. Does anyone have any comments on the hydraulic damper and alt belt? I thought the belt kit comes with tensioner so Im unsure what these extras are for.
