Aftermarket TOAD alarm problem
« on: 25 July 2012, 10:20 »
Morning everyone,
Im having issues with my alarm, it randomly goes off as and when it decides. sometimesit will be fine all day and othersit will go off 2-3 times. I thought it was just super sensitiveat first but im starting to think different now.
Iv moved the sensors in the pillars just so they are facing down to the dash to see if it was them but it still goes off. Next is to disconnect/clean up the bonnet sensor as it looks a bit battered.
Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue or any thoughts of what it could be? Bad earth ect. Ill try get the exact model of what is in there soon.

Cheers

what model toad do you have? Id start of by disconnecting the sensors 1st (they are connected to the main module) then clean the bonnect and boot sensors. It also should tell you what has triggered the alarm as it will beep so many times ( 4 beeps is the internal sensors and also the light will flash so many times. Download the manual and it will tell you what means what.

Going to get the model number tonight hopefully. But you may have just answered the question for me, when i unlock the car after it goes off it beeps 4 times as opposed to the usual twice. Theres not much to the sensors so surely just a dirty connection? the bonnet one is very exposed to the elements which is a ridiculous idea.
Gonna trace it back later, doing my head in going off at 3 in the morning! Thanks Sharki

if its 4 beeps then its the interior sensors. If its 6 beeps thats bonnet/boot & i think doors. Let me have a fiddle with my alarm.

I spent most the day at work reading up on different models and came up with 4 beeps is the bonnet sensor. I unscrewed the sensor and it is knackered, one of the cables was just bare wire wrapped around the earthing part of the sensor, pulled it apart set the alarm and touched the 2 together, and when unlocking it it gave me 4 beeps so i think it could be solved. If it goes off again today then its onto the interior sensors. Cheers for the help mate!

your onto something buddy. Just do what i did and disconnect the bonnet switch. And reconnect it when you have replaced it. Mine had just 1 wire going to it. Other mk3s have the bonnet switch so you can have a look around the scrappers?

One cable was wrapped around a copper earthing strip that had also snapped, and the other cable was clipped on the bottom of the pin, so obviously when the pin rises (bonnet opens) they touch and complete the circuit. But it was well past its time. Taped the ends up, heat shrinked them and gonna get to the scrappy as soon as. Or just use a decent switch from a different car.
