« on: 24 July 2012, 20:25 »
Does any1 have any idea how much to take off of the flywheel (8v gti digi) I've been to see some1 about doin it n he said I need to find out how much to take off. He also said he couldn't give me a price before knowing how much to take off. Does any 1 know a ball park figure?

I took my 02A flywheels up to JNL Racing in Markyate.  To lighten, reface and balance was £100.  You shouldn't need to re-face, so would be £80.

I'd take it to a bloke who knows how much to take off and where, rather than to someone who doesn't know this *key* information!

I bought a lightened flywheel last month from Hotgolf over on club gti , cost was £69 and had to send my old one back to him, its probably about half the weight of the old one !

Simon.

No.  The Balancing is quite specialist.  I think Wazzer's had one taken down on the Island and I think DaveIOW has, but neither were balanced.

Not that hard to balance for a machine shop, can be done a drill and a stand "old style" or on CNC machining centre.
If you know of a precision grinders, they should have the the kit to balance it.
A lot easier to send one to someone like hot golf

It's only easy once you know where the weight needs removing! Places with the kit to measure the balance accurately and meaningfully are few and far between.

You need a stand, a lathe for a mandrel, a drill and some chalk.
If you have a machining centre its even easier.

And these guys have a balance machine, easy.
